One purse on the closet floor is easy enough to ignore. Then another gets set beside it, a tote falls against both of them, and the straps start crossing over one another. The bag you want is usually the one with its handle trapped underneath something else.
A shelf seems like the obvious place to move them. In a small closet, though, shelves tend to have other jobs already. Shoes, folded clothes, and bins are not going to disappear just to make room for handbags.
What may still be available is the height above a narrow patch of floor.
Look for Space That Is Going Up, Not Across
A tall organizer can fit where a row of bags cannot. This narrow purse storage rack is roughly 15 inches wide and 11 inches deep, so it uses a fairly small piece of floor while extending upward.
The shelves are useful for bags that never sit properly on the floor. A structured handbag can stay upright instead of leaning against the next one. The hooks suit lighter bags and totes, which also keeps their long straps away from the bags below.
There is still some judgment involved. A large tote does not suddenly become narrow because the rack is narrow. Hang several bulky bags from the sides and they can spread into the clothes beside them or make the whole arrangement feel crowded.
That is worth checking before buying anything. Look at the empty strip of closet floor first, then look at the bags. If the rack fits but the purses would stick well beyond it, the space has not really been saved.
Depth causes similar trouble when you have room for a cabinet, but not a deep one. Something can fit neatly on paper and still get in the way once it projects into the usable space.
For a handful of everyday purses, a narrow vertical rack can make an awkward part of the closet useful. The difference shows up when you reach for a bag: it comes off its own hook or shelf instead of bringing a tangle of straps with it.
