A laundry hamper can be difficult to place in a small room. The gap beside a dresser may be too narrow for a standard basket. In a closet, the basket may fit only if you move the shoes somewhere else.
The problem is often the shape. A wide basket uses valuable floor space even when there is plenty of unused height above it. A taller, narrower hamper can make better use of that same spot.
Measure the Space for a Narrow Laundry Hamper
Start with the strip of floor where the hamper would actually stay. A gap beside furniture or at the end of a closet may be more useful than it looks once you know its width.
This narrow rolling laundry hamper comes in several sizes. The 55L version is only 8.7 inches wide, while the larger 75L version is 9.8 inches wide. That small difference matters when the available gap is already tight.
There is a 95L option too, but it grows to 13 inches wide. More capacity is not much help if those extra inches put the hamper back in the walkway.
Width is only half the measurement. The 75L version is 17.3 inches long, so it also needs enough depth to sit completely inside the space. This is similar to when you have room for a cabinet, but not a deep one. An item can fit between two boundaries and still protrude far enough to become annoying.
The wheels become useful once the hamper is tucked into a confined spot. Instead of lifting a full basket past furniture or clothes, you can pull it forward by the handle and roll it out. Two of the wheels lock to keep it from wandering while it is parked.
The lid also makes more sense when the only available spot is somewhere visible, such as beside bedroom furniture. Dirty clothes stay covered without needing another place to hide the hamper.
If there is a narrow strip of unused floor in the room, measure both its width and depth. A hamper that stays completely inside that footprint can give dirty clothes a permanent place without leaving another bulky basket to walk around.
