Stick-On Cable Mounts That Keep Messy Cords Out of Sight

A loose cable rarely stays where you put it. Push it behind the desk and a loop works its way back out. Run it neatly down the side of a cabinet and, after something gets moved, part of it is crossing the floor again.

The awkward part is that the cable may already have a perfectly sensible route. It just has nothing persuading it to stay there.

Stick-on cable mounts hold the cable against the surface it was supposed to follow in the first place. Instead of gathering the whole cord into a bundle, they deal with the sections that keep wandering away from the wall, desk or cabinet.

Spacing matters more than using as many mounts as possible. Too much cable between two clips leaves enough slack for another loop to appear. Putting the clips closer together at corners or changes in direction keeps the cord following the surface instead.

That makes these mounts different from a fix for charger cords that keep falling behind furniture. A charger usually needs its loose end within reach. Here, the nuisance is the length of cable that should stay put but does not.

The adhesive also needs a surface it can hold onto. A clip that slowly peels away from a dusty or uneven wall soon leaves the cable exactly where it started. On a rough surface, a mount designed for screws may make more sense than repeatedly pressing an adhesive one back into place.

Kitchen appliance cords create another variation of the problem. If the excess cable belongs with an appliance that regularly moves, messy cords behind kitchen appliances need a solution that moves with them rather than clips that hold the cable to the counter.

For a cord that simply needs to travel from one place to another without wandering into view, a few well-placed mounts keep it following the same route after everything around it moves.
