How to Keep Your Laptop Charger From Falling Off the Desk

A laptop charger can stay exactly where you put it while it is plugged into the computer. Unplug the connector, though, and the arrangement changes. The cable is no longer anchored at the laptop, and the length already hanging over the desk edge can start pulling the loose end after it.
Putting the connector back on the desktop works until it gets nudged or enough cable slips over the edge again. Moving the charging brick farther back does not necessarily solve it either. The brick may stay put while the end you actually need drops behind the desk.
The useful part to control is not the whole charger. It is the point where the cable reaches the desk edge.
Give the Cable a Stopping Point
A magnetic cable holder gives the cable a fixed place to stop while still letting it move during normal use. Its magnetic clamp opens when you want to remove the cable and closes around it again afterward. The holder stays on the desk, but the charger does not have to.
Laptops move around, so the cable holder should not turn the charger into a permanent desk fixture. With a magnetic clip, the holder stays attached while the clamp opens to release the cable. You can take the charger with the laptop without pulling the cord through a tight slot.
The cable does not need to be clipped down along the whole desk. One holder near the edge can interrupt the part that causes the trouble. Instead of more cable feeding downward until the connector follows, the cord stops there and leaves the connector on top.
A phone charger that keeps falling off the nightstand creates much the same nuisance. There is little reason to organize the entire cable when the part you keep retrieving from the floor is the loose end.
Make Sure the Cable Fits
The holder has a 7.5 mm slot. Check your laptop cable against that measurement first, because a cable that will not sit properly inside the clamp defeats the point of putting one there. The adhesive also needs a flat, clean place on the desk where the holder can stay fixed.
If the charger is competing with adapters, pens, and other small items for desktop space, adding storage underneath the desk deals with that separate problem without using more of the working surface.
For the charger itself, the change is simpler. Unplug the laptop and the cable stops at the desk edge. The connector stays on top, where you can reach it the next time the laptop needs power.
