If your “clean” laundry smells a bit like a wet towel, your washing machine’s the problem. Detergent residue, fabric softener, and lint slowly collect in the drum, gasket, and hose. Add humidity, and you get that sour, musty smell that never seems to go away.

Start with a deep-cleaning tablet made specifically for washers. Drop one in, set a hot cycle, and let it fizz away the gunk you can’t see. It works in both top- and front-load machines, even high-efficiency ones.
The tablet breaks down soap scum, minerals, and mildew film that regular detergent leaves behind. Most formulas are eco-friendly and septic-safe, so you’re not rinsing harsh chemicals down the drain.
If it’s been a while since your last clean, you’ll want a slim brush kit to go with it. Use the long flexible brush to sweep under the rubber ring and around the drain area — the spots that always trap lint and grime.
